The exact composition of Enviroshake® products is a proprietary trade secret. It is what is commonly known as a composite material that is made from 95% recycled material including post-industrial recycled plastics, fibers, and elastomers. There are also ingredients that protect it from UV degradation and provide the necessary colouring to replicate the look of cedar shakes, shingles or slate.
Enviroshake® and Enviroslate® shakes are approx. 12” wide and 20” long. Profiles were made from digital images of natural cedar shakes and natural slate to ensure that our products emulate the classic look as much as possible. In order to do this shakes come in 6 various profiles, and slate comes with different textures and edges.
Enviroshingle® shingles are approx. 20” wide and 12” long. Profiles were made from digital images of natural cedar shingles to ensure that Enviroshingle® emulates the perfection cedar shingle look as much as possible. In order to do this shingles come in 2 different profiles.
Enviroshake® Inc. products are fire resistant, and have a UL2218 Class C fire rating.
All Enviroshake® products weigh approximately 260 lbs per square (1 square = 100 square ft.) Enviroslate® is about 1/3 the weight of natural slate, so there is no roof deck reinforcement required.
All Enviroshake® products are recommended for roofs with a pitch of 2/12 or greater.
The first Enviroshake® roof was installed in 1999, making Enviroshake® a pioneer in the composite roofing industry.
Different jurisdictions have different code regulations but generally speaking, Enviroshake® products can be installed over one layer of existing asphalt shingles, provided the roof is structurally sound underneath. However, Enviroshake® does not recommend this practice, as it is a best practice to ensure the roof deck is in good form before applying the roofing product over top.
Accelerated weather testing indicates that Enviroshake® products will have a life expectancy that is considerably longer than the lifetime transferable warranty that is offered.
Enviroshake® is pleased to offer various colour options to emulate natural cedar and slate roofs. Enviroshake® is available in classic silvered cedar, aged cedar, or multi tone. Enviroshingle® is available in classic silvered cedar or aged cedar. Enviroslate® is available in Onyx Black, Charcoal Grey, Stoney Grey, Plum Purple (light and dark), and Sage green (light and dark).
Enviroshake® can create custom colours upon special request.
All Enviroshake® products will weather, and as with natural materials, there will be slight variations in shading and thickness of the shakes/shingles, giving the product a natural look on the roof.
