Features & Benefits

While the timeless beauty of Enviroshake products is immediately apparent, there is more to the Enviroshake line than meets the eye. Through superior engineering, Enviroshake also offers industry leading performance, durability, and longevity.

Select any of the features below to discover more about Enviroshake’s pioneering accomplishments and what they mean for you and your property.

Wind

Enviroshake has passed the High Velocity Hurricane Zone TAS 125 and resists wind speeds up to 180 MPH (290 km/h).

Enviroshake®, Enviroslate®, and Enviroshingle® are engineered to give you peace of mind, boasting an unsurpassed wind resistance up to 180 mph (290 km/h). Such speeds are greater than the winds of a category 5 hurricane! The standard high velocity testing acceptance as well as most other synthetic products are rated to only 110 mph.

Enviroshake requires NO special install processes to achieve its 180 mph wind resistance.

Enviroshake roofs have withstood the following hurricanes:

  • Hurricane Irma (highest wind speed: 177 mph or 285 km/h)
  • Hurricane Katrina (highest wind speed: 175 mph or 281 km/h)
  • Hurricane Maria (highest wind speed: 175 mph or 282 km/h)
  • Hurricane Gonzalo (highest wind speed: 145 mph or 233 km/h)
  • Typhoon Haiyan (highest wind speed: 143 mph or 230 km/h)
  • Hurricane Harvey (highest wind speed: 130 mph or km/h)
  • Hurricane Sandy (highest wind speed: 115 mph or 185 km/h)

…Congratulations on how well the Enviroshake held up on the Hamilton house. At my house on Tortola we experienced up to 200mph gusts [during hurricane Irma] - difficult to deal with that!

Fire

If you're worried about fire, let Enviroshake ease your mind. All Enviroshake products are available with an unconditional Class A fire rating (ASTM E108).

For natural cedar to be fire-resistant, it must be periodically treated with topical chemicals. These chemicals can be poisonous to ingest and harmful to the environment. Enviroshake products provide the peace of mind of a Class A fire rating without involving topical chemicals, meaning that its water runoff is potable and harmless to the environment.

Other synthetic roofing products require a special underlayment and/or specific install processes to achieve a Class A rated roofing system. This is what sets Enviroshake apart. Enviroshake’s unconditional Class A fire rating (ASTM E108) does not require the expensive supplementary products other materials rely on to achieve its best-in-class fire rating. Instead, its intensive scientific testing and state-of-the-art engineering processes have developed a product that boasts an unconditional Class A rating independent of such systems.

Impact

Enviroshake has been awarded a Class 4 Impact Rating (UL 2218)—the highest impact rating available.

The tiles can withstand impact from hail the size of a Starbucks venti coffee (though we hope you never have to experience that).

In 2010, Calgary, Alberta faced a severe hailstorm bringing hailstones almost four centimeters wide, smashing a national record for damage expenses. The powerful hail that dented cars and damaged homes and businesses, resulted in over 60,000 insurance claims totaling over $400 million – a record amount for a hailstorm in Canada, according to the National Insurance Bureau. Following this storm, we are proud to say that Enviroshake had zero warranty claims.

UV resistance

Enviroshake roofs are not damaged by UV exposure. Our specially engineered composite blend has sunscreen built right in, providing our tiles best-in-class UV resistance. This sunscreen is a proprietary blend of top-of-the-line hindered amine light stabilizers (HALSs) and anti-oxidants that provides effective ultraviolet light protection for applications demanding high light stability, as well as outstanding long-term protection. This means they will not discolour or face composition degradation over time.

All Enviroshake roofing tiles have a brief weathering period of six months to a year. During this time, the product will weather to a natural matte finish, leaving you with the unbeatably authentic look of aged cedar or slate.

Solar reflectivity

The coolness of a product is measured by the Solar Reflectivity Index (SRI), which measures solar and thermal emittance. To be considered a Cool Roof, a product must have an SRI greater than 19. The higher the value, the cooler the roof. Enviroshake Envirocool(R) roofing products have an SRI value of 31. Our custom colour Bermuda White, has an impressive SRI of 80.7!

All Enviroshake products allow less heat transfer than do cedar or asphalt, which can reduce heating and cooling bills. Even more effective is our Envirocool.

Enviroshake products have been rated independently by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC).

Aesthetics

Cedar and slate roofs are known by the most discerning homeowners for their highly desirable curb appeal and classic beauty.

Made from 3D images of real cedar and slate, Enviroshake products offer the most authentic look available in composite products today. Words can't do them justice –  click here to check out our photo gallery.

Like any home improvement, an Enviroshake roof increases the resale value of your home. In fact, you can get an 80–90% return on your investment. Conversely, replacing a cedar or slate roof with asphalt will significantly decrease your home's resale value.

Sustainability

Enviroshake roofing tiles are manufactured from 95% post-industrial recycled materials.

Any scrap material created during our advanced manufacturing process is recycled back into the system, and waste materials are diverted. As an added benefit, Enviroshake products are 100% recyclable.

By purchasing an Enviroshake roof, you help prevent thousands of pounds of plastic from entering our oceans each year while simultaneously reducing the demand for new oil.

Thermal expansion and contraction

Enviroshake tiles have been engineered to thermally expand and contract less than 2% between seasons. No matter how extreme your climate is, or the temperature fluctuations you experience, rest assured Enviroshake products have been designed to rise to the test.

Unlike with metal roofing, you will not hear loud creaks or pops from your roof as the temperature changes, and unlike with other synthetics, you don't have to worry about warping, curling, cracking, or—worst of all—melting.

Curling and cracking

As a pioneer in the composite roofing industry, we have spent over 20 years perfecting the design and composition of our products. The ribbed-back design of Enviroshake tiles has helped ensure our products do not curl, while their unique composite blend maintains provides leading impact resistance so that they do not crack.

Moss, lichen, and insects

Avoid the environmentally harmful and arduous maintenance required by natural cedar or slate roofs by installing Enviroshake.

Both natural cedar and slate require regular cleaning to prevent moss and lichen buildup, and unless you opt for the most high-end, pressure-treated, old-growth cedar product, a natural cedar roof lacks the density and oil coverage that help protect it from insect damage. Further, real slate is brittle and cannot be walked upon.

In contrast, Enviroshake's virtually maintenance-free composite tiles are durable enough to be walked upon and resistant to moss, lichen, and insects, saving you time, money, and stress – and keeping the environment just a little bit safer.

Rain & potability

If you regularly experience torrential downpours, you'll be happy to know that our roofing tiles have a virtually impenetrable rain resistance of 225 mm per hour. That would be like hitting a 50-square roof with 5.5 million pounds of water in a 24-hour period. That's as much water as is in an Olympic-sized swimming pool!

For context, Hurricane Harvey – the largest rain event in US history – dropped 96 mm of rain per hour!

The runoff water from Enviroshake roofs is also completely potable and non-toxic. Enviroshake has undergone third-party testing to confirm that runoff from our tiles actually meets World Health Organization drinking water standards! You can rest assured that using the runoff from your Enviroshake roof in your grey water systems is completely safe.
