Enviroshake can take the heat

This month we heard from long-time Enviroshake roof owners at the Sonora Resort in British Columbia. The Sonora Resort is a 5-star luxury resort secluded off the coast of BC in the Discovery Islands archipelago, accessible only by sea or air. After a construction fire at the resort in 2005, the nearby Enviroshake roof helped contain the fire and prevent extensive damage to the resort. Here’s what President & CEO of Sonora Resort, G.W (Wynne) Powell, had to say:

“We own and operate in the province of British Columbia one of North America’s finest high end lodge resorts known as Sonora Resort (www.sonoraresort.com). Sonora is a member of the Relais & Chateaux group. Trip advisor rated us #1 in luxury resorts in Canada for 2011.

When we purchased this resort we decided that we wanted to maintain the elegance and traditional look and feel of cedar shakes while having the best fire resistant product possible. We chose your Enviroshake product to meet this need. We replaced all original cedar shakes on site with your Enviroshake product.

Your product has been easy to install, and proven very weather resistant. In January 2005, during a severe windstorm, one of our new 12,500 sq ft lodge additions suffered a construction fire, equivalent to a two-alarm city event. Even though our resort is on a remote island location we have a very robust fire fighting system with many fire hydrants in place. This fire suppression system combined with the fire resistant properties of Enviroshake helped contain the fire to the new construction area and two of the smaller original lodge buildings.

Two of the original lodge buildings still had cedar shakes located further away from the construction fire source caught fire unlike the roofs with Enviroshake. We wanted to let you know that the design and safety criteria you have built into your product have proven its worth and thank you for producing such a great product.”

FAQs

What is Enviroshake’s fire rating?

Enviroshake has been awarded the highest available Class A ASTM E108 fire rating. This rating was achieved without the use of a special underlayment. Our product is unconditionally Class A! Class C product is also available.

Is there a lot of hand-sorting required when the material arrives at the jobsite?

No. Enviroshake comes in 8 profiles, which are pre-shuffled into bundles.

Does the colour of our products extend below the surface of the shingle?

Yes, our tiles are “colour-through.“ There are no topical paints or coatings used in our process.

Enviroshake products have some colour variation to authentically emulate the tones of natural cedar. Our tiles are designed to have a weathering period in the first year of installation to reveal a beautiful weathered matte cedar look, and after this initial period, the tiles will maintain their classic aesthetic and rich colour over the lifetime of your roof.
