What Is Enviroshake® made of?
The exact composition of Enviroshake® is a proprietary trade secret. It is what is commonly known as a composite material that contains plastics, fibers, and tire derived rubber. There are also components that protect it from UV degradation and provide the necessary colouring to replicate the look of cedar shakes.
What colours does Enviroshake® come in?
Enviroshake® is currently offered in only one colour. It starts out as a brownish grey colour and converts or “weathers” to a silver-grey colour that closely resembles a real cedar roof.
How much does Enviroshake® weigh?
Enviroshake® weighs approximately 300 lbs per Square. (1 Square = 100 square feet)
How long does Enviroshake® last?
Accelerated weather testing indicates that Enviroshake® will have a life expectancy that is considerably longer than the 50 year warranty that is offered.
What sizes do the shakes come in?
All Enviroshake® tiles are approximately 12” wide by 20” long. There are 6 profiles that provide a random look once Enviroshake ® is installed.
Can I install Enviroshake® over my existing shingles?
Different jurisdictions have different code regulations but generally speaking, Enviroshake® can be installed over one layer of existing asphalt shingles, provided the roof is structurally sound underneath. There is considerable cost savings since there would be no additional cost for removal and disposal of the shingles. There are considerable environmental benefits to this as well because the old shingles need not be put in a landfill.
Do you have to install strips of wood horizontally under the Enviroshake® shingles to allow them to “breathe”?
No. Unlike real cedar, Enviroshake® is a synthetic product that does not need to breathe. It can be installed over solid plywood sheathing or it can be installed on strapping. Please adhere to the installation guide and all local codes regarding installation.
What is the lowest slope that Enviroshake® can be used on?
Enviroshake® is recommended for roofs with a pitch of 4/12 or greater. Please consult Technical Support at 1.866.423.3302 or info@enviroshake.com if your roof slope is less than 4/12.
Where can I purchase Enviroshake® in my area?
